There are some fairly good free translation tools available online that can aid with simple translations, translating a web page, etc. For more in-depth translation requirements, it is advised to consult with a professional translation service. Some are listed below under Services.

Google's free online language translation service instantly translates text and web pages. You can translate a snippet of text or a web page. The translator supports: English, Arabic, Chinese, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and more.

Yahoo also has an online translation tool with simliar features.
There is also some interesting information about translation on Wikipedia.
